Expedition XIII Morocco: in search of the Lammergeier

Expedition XIII Morocco: in search of the Lammergeier

This November, Sierra-trek and Iberus Medioambiente have carried out the XIII expedition to Morocco in search of the last remaining breeding pairs of Lammergeier in North-West Africa. After ten days exploration of the high Atlas Mountains, we were able to locate a juevenile of 4 years, in pursuit of a Golden eagle in an attempt to rob it of its prey.

Important data which allows us  to confirm the presence of the species in this particular area.

Eleven years on and solid data is still being added to this Lammergeier conservation project in Morocco.

A sighting of a juvenile Lammergeier of 4 years is good news indeed. I don’t know if you heard about a workshop about the conservation of the species held recently in Marrakech (6 and 7 December 2011) under the theme “Lammergeier of Morocco: Current state, Perspective of Conservation and short-term Action plan”. More information here: http://moroccanbirds.blogspot.com/2011/12/workshop-on-lammergeier-of-morocco.html

It would be very good if you could send this sighting to Fabrice Cuzin who is collaborating with the local antenna of the “Haut Commissariat aux Eaux et Forêts et Lutte Contre la Désertification” to gather all information about the species.

I forget to ask you about the photograph of the Lammergeier (the 4th one), is it taken in your last trip?

    many thanks,
    Mohamed
